Dipper at Night
2025I had the opportunity to study Textiles abroad in India for a month, and work for week in Bagru with Amit Derawala learning Block Printing with natural dyes.
After printing fabric there, I used some of it to make “Dipper at Night” a quilt exploring some of the architectural elements I saw, as well as a way of remembering my travels.
I combined the traditional techniques with my own explorations, using the Wood Blocks to stamp repeating elements, and a more unusual method of painting directly with the inks onto the fabric.
I stitched along all of the block printed elemnts and then used a Trapunto quilting method to stuff the painted motifs.
To the left are some of the photos I took that directly made their way into the quilt.
